INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Haleigh Ashworth (Owensboro, Ky.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week.
Ashworth, a shortstop and pitcher for the Panthers, hit .459 to lead the Panthers to an 8-2 mark at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. She was 17-for-37 at the plate and guided the offense with 10 runs scored. Ashworth also posted five RBI, two doubles and a triple on the week.
In addition, she was 3-1 in the circle with a 0.77 earned run average and a save. She struck out 32 in 27.1 innings pitched and allowed just three earned runs.
She posted a hit in eight of the Panthers’ ten games last week and posted multi-hit efforts seven times. Ashworth struck out just twice in 37 plate appearances.
Ashworth leads the team this season in batting average (.439), runs (11), RBI (7) and doubles (5). The Panthers (9-7) returns to action at Oakland City on March 13.
