INDIANAPOLIS – Southern Indiana sophomore forward Anna Hackert has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for contests played Jan. 3-5, it was announced by the league on Monday.

Hackert helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a 2-0 week against league opponents, posting a 73-65 win over Missouri-St. Louis and a 69-63 victory against Maryville.  She recorded impressive numbers on the week, shooting 56.0 percent from the field, and averaged 13.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in 27.5 minutes of court time.

Against Missouri-St. Louis, Hackert scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win over the Tritons.  She had six points and seven of her nine rebounds in the second period as the Screaming Eagles erased a five-point second-half deficit to come away with the victory.

She stuffed the stat line by posting a season-high 20 points and career-high 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block against Maryville.  The Evansville, Ind., native is averaging 16.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in 10 contests

The honor is Hackert’s first of her career, and first for a USI standout since teammate Mary O’Keefe won the award on Dec. 19, 2011.

Southern Indiana is off to its best start (10-0, 2-0 GLVC) since the 1997-98 campaign and is one of only 10 unbeaten teams in the NCAA Division II.
