INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana senior Michael Jordan and Missouri S&T freshman Michael Grinde have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the league on Wednesday. Jordan was voted by the league coaches as the Track Athlete of the Week, while Grinde was tabbed as the Field Athlete of the Week.
Jordan finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run at the Gladstein Invitational last weekend with a personal best and GLVC-leading time of 8:15.82. The Indianapolis, Ind., native, who was also the conference’s individual champion and GLVC Runner of the Year in cross country this past fall, is currently third among all NCAA Division II runners in the 3,000 meters.
This is first weekly indoor honor of Jordan’s career, although he claimed three weekly accolades throughout his cross country career. He is the first USI trackster to be honored by the league since Dustin Emerick was selected as Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 15, 2011.
