INDIANAPOLIS – University of Wisconsin-Parkside senior forward Jeremy Saffold has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, after helping the Rangers to a 2-1 record last week, including a pair of upset wins over No. 3 Kentucky Wesleyan and No. 10 Southern Indiana.

In the week’s opener against Lewis on Monday, Saffold recorded 22 points and five rebounds in the 77-74 loss.  Facing two top-10 teams, Saffold then rallied the Rangers to two wins that placed UWP in a tie for first in the GLVC East with Bellarmine and Southern Indiana at 7-2.

On Thursday, UW-Parkside defeated 10th-ranked Southern Indiana 77-68 on the heels of 25 points on 8-of-14 (.571) shooting to go along with six boards.  Saffold then responded Saturday with 11 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block in a close 60-59 victory over No. 3 Kentucky Wesleyan.

Saffold averaged 19.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last week, and continues to pace the conference with 19.8 points per outing, including a league-best 19.0 points each time out in GLVC play.

This is the second weekly honor of Saffold’s career as he was also honored three weeks ago on Jan. 7.

UW-Parkside (12-5, 7-2 GLVC) hits the road to Saint Joseph’s on Thursday before returning home to host ranked GLVC opponent in Indianapolis on Saturday.
