University of Indianapolis senior Jermel Kindred and freshman Joshua Bass have swept the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards, respectively, it was announced by the league on Wednesday. The Greyhound tandem was recognized as the conference’s best performers last week in a vote conducted by the league coaches.
Kindred won the 400-meter dash contested at the Wildcat Invitational this past weekend with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 49.22, which is currently ranked first among the GLVC competitors. The South Bend, Ind., native also ran on the 4x200-meter relay team that set a new meet and university record with a time of 1:28.14.
This is the first weekly honor for Kindred and the first for a UIndy trackster since Robert Gardner earned the final indoor award last year on Feb. 22, 2012.
