INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana’s Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, N.C.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Mastroianni, a junior second baseman, helped the Eagles to a 4-1 record in GLVC play last week. He finished 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate in the five contests and delivered five runs, four walks, two RBI, three steals and was perfect in the field in 22 chances.
He was 1-for-2 in the Eagles’ 5-0 win over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan on Mar. 14. Mastroianni scored twice, walked twice and stole a base in the victory.
In USI’s series at Northern Kentucky over the weekend, Mastroianni was 6-for-11 with three runs and two RBI. Included in his solid weekend was a 4-for-5 effort in the Eagles’ 9-2 win on Mar. 17. Mastroianni drove in two, scored twice, registered a steal and belted a triple in the series-changing victory.
On the year, he is hitting .493 with 17 RBI, seven doubles and a league-best 25 runs and 22 stolen bases.
USI (13-6, 4-3 GLVC) returns to the diamond on Mar. 20 at Kentucky Wesleyan.
