University of Southern Indiana senior center Keith DeWitt has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. DeWitt helped USI to a sweep of GLVC games this week, including a win over No. 6 Bellarmine, which marked the Screaming Eagles’ third victory over a top-10 team in the last six games.
DeWitt was dominating in the 62-49 win over the sixth-ranked Knights on Thursday, adding six blocked shots to his 18 points and 12 rebounds. He also dished out four assists while shooting 75 percent from the field (6-of-8) and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line.
The High Point, N.C., native finished the week with another impressive performance, this time on the road at McKendree. DeWitt dropped in a team-high 20 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing three assists. He shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the field to lead USI to a 78-68 decision over the Bearcats.
For the week, DeWitt averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, and 3.5 assists. He shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the field and 66.6 percent from the line (8-of-12).
The back-to-back double-doubles were the third and fourth of the season for DeWitt, who garners his first-ever weekly award from the conference. His distinction this week also marks the first for a center this season and is the first time a USI player has been recognized by the league since teammate Aaron Nelson was honored on Jan. 21, 2013.
