Lewis University sophomore forward Jess Reinhart was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for contests played Jan. 31-Feb. 2, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Reinhart posted impressive numbers on the week, averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. She shot 15-for-28 (.536) from the field and went 10-for-12 (.833) from the free-throw line. The Normal, Ill., native also posted back-to-back double-doubles between the two wins to earn her fourth double-double of the season.
In the week’s opener against No. 19 Indianapolis, Reinhart led all scorers with 25 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds, in the Flyers 78-75 double-overtime win over the Greyhounds. She tacked on three steals, three assists, and one block in 42 minutes of court time.
On Saturday, Lewis defeated Saint Joseph’s 67-56 to remain the East Division leader behind Reinhart’s 15 points and 11 rebounds of which seven were on the defensive end. The Flyers shot 45.2 percent from the field making 14-of-31 shots including four three-pointers, while they held the Pumas to 21.9 percent from the floor on 7-of-32 shooting.
The honor is Reinhart’s second of her career as she also won the award on Nov. 12, 2012. With senior Sam Rinehart being recognized by the conference last week, this marks the second time Lewis has won back-to-back awards since the 2006-07 season when Darcee Schmidt won it on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and Mary Moskal earned the honor on Jan. 8.
Lewis (16-3, 9-2 GLVC) travels to Evansville, Ind., to take on Southern Indiana on Thursday (Feb. 7) in a 5:15 p.m. tip-off.
