University of Missouri-St. Louis junior guard Darian Cartharn has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. Cartharn averaged 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while leading the Tritons to a pair of wins last week.
In the 79-71 win at Quincy last Thursday, Cartharn scored 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc in 35 minutes of play.
Hosting Illinois Springfield, Cartharn netted 19 points and recorded a career-best six rebounds in UMSL’s 82-67 victory on Saturday. The Canal Winchester, Ohio, native drained another five three-pointers, giving him three straight contests and four of the last five games where he has posted five or more treys.
In addition to averaging 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds on the week, Cartharn also shot 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the field, including 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range.
The honor is the first of Cartharn’s career and the first for a Triton since teammate Charlie Woods was recognized by the conference with the first award of the 2012-13 season on Nov. 12, 2012.
Missouri-St. Louis (17-8, 10-7 GLVC) hits the road this week, albeit not far away from campus, to conclude the regular-season at Maryville (22-8, 11-6) for a 7:30 p.m. CT tip.
