INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University senior first baseman and pitcher Michael Schroeder and University of Missouri-St. Louis senior pitcher Kyle Renaud have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Over a five-game stretch last week, Schroeder did damage in the field, at the plate, and on the mound. In 16 plate appearances, the Crown Point, Ind., native recorded seven hits, including four doubles, scoring five times and batting in seven of his teammates. He hit .438 on the week, while slugging at a .688 clip, to help the Flyers to a 4-1 record, which included a win over West Virginia Wesleyan and doubleheader sweeps against Ohio Dominican and Gannon.
In the first game of the double-dip against Gannon, Schroeder performed masterfully on the mound, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out four in a seven-inning 3-0 shutout.
This is the first weekly award in Schroeder’s career and the first time a Flyer has been recognized by the league since Ben Albano was named Player of the Week on April 23, 2012.
