INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University sophomore Zsofia Lanstiak has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Lanstiak compiled a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 1 single spot and a 2-1 slate in the doubles position to help lead the Flyers to a 1-2 record that included an upset over No. 18 Georgia College last week.
The Budapest, Hungary native, earned four wins over nationally-ranked opponents, including a 6-3, 6-4 win over Armstrong Atlantic’s Barbora Krtickova, who was ranked No. 2 in the country. She also earned two victories against Georgia College, helping the No. 37 Flyers to a 6-3 upset win over the Bobcats. Lanstiak went 6-3, 6-1 in singles play over George College’s Ivana Marevic.
Lanstiak, who is ranked No. 27 in the country in singles play, earned a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win over No. 25 Mona Blauen of Francis Marion at the No. 1 flight. She later partnered with junior Zsofia Kranczicki, a duo ranked No. 4 in the country in doubles action, to down No. 17 Julia Graf and Blauen, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.
The reigning GLVC Player of the Year possesses a dominating 68-5 singles career record to date and claims a 65-12 record in doubles.
For the season, Lanstiak is 12-1 in singles and 11-2 in doubles play.
The honor is Lanstiak’s fifth of her career and second on the season, as she also won the award on Feb. 26, 2013.
Lewis, ranked third in the region, is 3-2 on the year and will return to action Friday, as the Flyers take on Saint Francis (Ill.) at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 3:30 p.m. first serve.
