McKendree University junior shortstop Tony Kossina and William Jewell College redshirt junior pitcher David Collins have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

On the mound, Collins was recognized for his complete-game effort last week, tossing four-hit ball over the full 9.0 innings in the Cardinals’ 2-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.  The Kansas City, Mo., native hurled 102 pitches in the win, striking out four while registering only one walk.

This is the first weekly honor for Collins and the first for a Jewell pitcher since teammate Drew Mitrisin was named GLVC Pitcher of the Week on March 6, 2013.

William Jewell is 5-6 on the year and 2-2 in conference play, while McKendree is 7-4 thus far and 2-2 in the GLVC.   The two teams are scheduled to meet this weekend as the Cardinals travel to Lebanon, Ill., for a four-game series against the Bearcats, beginning with a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
