INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University sophomore outfielder Austin Crutcher and University of Missouri-St. Louis junior pitcher Zach Standefer have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Crutcher helped Bellarmine to a split with Rockhurst by hitting .615 (8-for-13) in the four-game series. He reached base safely in all four games and boasted a slugging percentage of .923 and an on-base percentage of .625, while belting a pair of triples and six singles. Crutcher scored five runs and drove in five runs in the four games, and stole four bases as well. He also played error free in center field and recorded 10 putouts.
Crutcher, a native of Lexington, Ky., earns the first weekly award of his career and is the first Knight to be recognized by the conference since Bellarmine swept the weekly honors on March 12, 2012 when Cody Scheler and Phil Forbis were tabbed GLVC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Crutcher’s selection also marks the fifth different school to earn the Player of the Week award in as many weeks.
