University of Southern Indiana senior Ben Boesing was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for his performance in the Screaming Eagles’ 3-0 showing last week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.

Boesing totaled three wins in both singles and doubles play over Missouri-St. Louis, and division mates McKendree and Bellarmine.

Against Missouri-St. Louis, Boesing partnered with Jack Joyce in doubles at the No. 2 flight where they defeated Harry Heyburn and Irving Corrales, 8-2.  In singles play, Boesing’s meeting with Tim McLarty went unfinished due to the Screaming Eagles’ sweep of the doubles point, and wins at singles flight No. 1 and No. 2 in a 5-0 shutout over the Tritons.  Boesing followed that performance with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 4 singles position against McKendree’s Fabio Tsuchiya, and ended the week with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Bellarmine’s Carlos Antonioli.

The Floyds Knobs, Ind., native has run his winning streak to 12 straight matches in singles, while he and Joyce have won seven consecutive doubles.  During his run of wins, the Screaming Eagles have played five ranked opponents with Boesing winning all of his singles matches during that time.  Boesing needs five more wins to break the school record for most wins at singles, which is 81.  Currently, he has 148 career wins between singles (77) and doubles (71) and the school record is 154, which is owned by teammate Juan Quiroz.

The honor is Boesing’s third of his career and second of the season as he won the award on March 26.

Southern Indiana (10-4, 2-0 GLVC) returns to action Saturday when it travels to Lewis for a 10 a.m. first serve.
