INDIANAPOLIS – Missouri-St. Louis freshman Renee Verboven was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for her performance in the Tritons’ 4-0 road wins last week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
Verboven won a pair of matches at No. 3 singles and notched four wins at No. 1 doubles to remain unbeaten in league play this spring. She posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Southern Indiana’s Lindsey White at No. 2 singles during the Tritons’ cross division 5-1 win over the Screaming Eagles. Verboven followed that performance at the No. 3 singles position with a victory over McKendree’s Nathalia Oliveria, and then prevailed over Quincy’s Allison Callahan, 6-0, 6-2. Verboven closed the week not dropping a set over Illinois Springfield’s Faith Hook, 6-0, 6-0.
She also teamed up with teammate Louisa Werner to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, 8-3, 8-5, and 8-3, respectively, as the Tritons defeated Southern Indiana (5-1), McKendree (7-2), Quincy (9-0), and Illinois Springfield (9-0).
The Waalre, Netherlands, native has won six straight singles matches and is 9-1 in her last 10 outings, and has won 13 consecutive doubles matches with Werner.
The honor is Verboven’s first of her career, and first for Missouri-St. Louis since teammate Werner won the award on March 20, 2012.
Missouri-St. Louis (9-2, 3-0 GLVC) begins a six-match homestand to end the regular season on Wednesday, hosting Missouri Baptist at 3 p.m.
