University of Southern Indiana distance specialist Michael Jordan and Drury University senior high jumper Tory Groover have earned the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors of the 2013 season, it was announced by the league on Wednesday.
Groover recorded an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark of 6’8.75”/2.05 meters last week at the Pittsburg State/Wendy’s Invitational. His mark, which was good enough to place second in the event, is currently tops among all GLVC high jumpers.
A native of Rogersville, Mo., Groover earns his first-ever weekly award and is the first Panther to win a men’s outdoor track and field weekly honor since Jamie Zapatero was named Track Athlete of the Week on March 23, 2009.
