University of Southern Indiana junior distance runner Erika Wilson and Bellarmine University freshman thrower Courtney McIntyre were selected Wednesday as the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honorees of the 2013 season.
McIntyre opened up her freshman outdoor season in impressive fashion by claiming the shot put title at the Austin Peay Invitational. Her throw of 41’9.75”/12.74m established a new Bellarmine school record in the event. The Louisville, Ky., native’s heave also tops the GLVC charts for the year.
This is the first weekly honor of McIntyre’s career and the first Field Athlete of the Week accolade for a Knight since Denasha Moody was recognized on April 14, 2008. Bellarmine’s most recent Track Athlete of the Week honoree was Meghan Jones on May 1, 2012.
