University of Indianapolis sophomore outfielder Casey Williamson and freshman pitcher Morgan Foley have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Williamson extended her hitting streak to 11 games, going 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate last weekend. She compiled team highs in hits (10), runs (5), doubles (2), slugging percentage (1.000), and on-base percentage (.688), all while going 16 appearances at the plate without a strikeout.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native didn't make a single out in two games at McKendree. In game one, her one-out double with the bases empty in the fifth sparked a five-run inning which sealed the win for the Greyhounds. In game two, Williamson went 4-for-4 with three runs, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning, three RBIs, and two stolen bases in Indianapolis’ 9-0 victory.
So far this season, Williamson leads the league in total bases (98), hits (39), runs (29), RBIs (28), stolen bases (20), and triples (4).
Foley (12-2) had another pair of impressive pitching performances last week, including her second no-hitter of the season. She allowed just one run and three hits in 13 innings pitched while striking out 28 would-be hitters.
The Louisville, Ky., native returned to her hometown Friday and delivered a complete-game win over Bellarmine. She allowed one run on three hits, all singles, while striking out a personal-best 16 batters. Against, McKendree she allowed one run, three hits, and walked zero after facing 12 Bearcats.
Foley has amassed double-digit strikeout totals in seven of her last eight appearances, including each of the last five. She owns a league-best in strikeouts (144), innings pitched (84 IP), and opponents' batting average (.122) and is tied for the league lead in wins (12).
The honor is Williamson’s third of her career and the second for Foley since winning the award on March 26, 2012 and Feb. 25, 2013, respectively.
No. 2 Indianapolis (24-2, 6-0 GLVC) will host UW-Parkside Friday in its first home opener with the first pitch at 3 p.m.
