INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University junior shortstop Caleb Cole and Maryville University freshman pitcher Tyler Omlid have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Leading Drury to a 4-2 record last week, Cole hit an even .500 at the plate, posting 13 hits in 26 plate appearances.  In each of those six games, he tallied at least one hit, while ending the week with three consecutive three-hit efforts.  He also drove in at least one run in the first five games and finished with 11 RBI on the week.  The Lee's Summit, Mo., native accounted for five runs scored as well, often due to his performance at the plate, as he put himself in scoring position with four doubles on the week.  In a pair of wins at Missouri S&T, Cole combined to go 3-for-7 with five RBI.   In the series with Missouri-St. Louis where the Panthers went 2-2, Cole was 10-for-19 with three doubles and six RBI.

This is the first weekly honor of Cole’s career and is the first Player of Week award for a Panther since Tyler Wright was recognized by the league on March 29, 2010.  The most recent weekly honoree for Drury was Laurent Zenoni, who was named Pitcher of the week on April 9, 2012.
