INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University junior Lukas Kriem was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for his performance in the Panthers’ 2-0 showing last week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
Kriem totaled two wins in both singles and doubles play over Quincy and Illinois Springfield, respectively. He led No. 20 Drury in division play in two shut outs with a win over the Hawks’ Patrick Kuhle, where he did not drop a set, and Illinois Springfield’s Ben Main by score of 6-1, 6-2.
The Remseck, Germany, native teamed with senior Roman Gonda to collect two wins at No. 2 doubles against Quincy’s Ian Hinkamper and Lane Luhring (8-3), and Illinois Springfield’s Jose Luis Ortega and Oriol Andres (9-7).
This spring, Kriem is 14-0 in singles and 12-2 in doubles, which includes winning three straight matches with Gonda. He currently ranks No. 1 in doubles and No. 7 in the Midwest Region, and has 87 career wins between singles (42) and doubles (45).
The honor is Kriem’s first of his career and first for Drury since teammate Andy Blair won the award on April 17, 2012.
Drury (12-2, 4-0 GLVC) returns to action today when it travels to Southwest Baptist for a 4 p.m. match.
