Missouri-St. Louis’ Sweeps GLVC Softball Honors Again

INDIANAPOLIS - Missouri St. Louis’ senior shortstop Haleigh Jenkins and freshman pitcher Hannah Perryman have been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league on Monday.

In six games, Jenkins recorded 10 hits, added eight RBIs, and scored eight runs of which four of those hits were for extra base.  She also smashed three homeruns, after batting .952 (10-for-21) at the plate to help Missouri-St. Louis to a 6-0 record last week.  At Quincy, Jenkins went 4-for-8 with a homerun, collected two RBIs, and two runs scored.  She followed her performance at home in Missouri-St. Louis’ sweep of Missouri S&T going 5-of-7, including a 4-for-4 performance in game two, in which she had two homeruns, five RBIs, and scored four runs. The Bethalto, Ill., native finished the week with six put outs, five assists, and one double.

The lone senior leads the Tritons in batting average (.378), stolen bases (1.000), plate appearances (138), at bats (135), total bases (78), hits (51), and is second in home runs (7).

Perryman posted a 4-0 record in 23.1 innings twirled in Missouri-St. Louis’ perfect outing against Quincy, Drury, and Missouri S&T, respectively.  In the circle, Perryman struck out 48 batters to finish with a 1.20 ERA.  With the wins, she  improved to 16-5, and is responsible for 12 league wins for the Tritons.  Against Drury, she tied a career-best 18 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.   In game one 6-0 win against Missouri S&T, Perryman struck out 14 Lady Miners, including the first seven hitters she faced, en route to securing her eighth win where she held an opponent scoreless.

The Streamwood, Ill., native leads Missouri-St. Louis in strikeouts (243), appearances (25), and wins (16), while in league play, she ranks No. 2 in strikeouts looking (42), and No. 4 in innings pitched (135.0).

The honor is Jenkins’s first of her career, and the fourth weekly award for Perryman.  She was first recognized by the league on Feb. 18, March 18, and April 1 this season.

The Tritons (28-10, 19-3 GLVC) return to action on Saturday, hosting Quincy in a GLVC doubleheader with the first pitch at 12 p.m.
