Lewis University senior infielder/pitcher Michael Schroeder and University of Southern Indiana sophomore pitcher Ben Wright have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Wright garners the first weekly honor during his tenure in Evansville and is the first USI hurler to be named GLVC Pitcher of the Week since David Toth earned the season’s first weekly honor on Feb. 25.
Wright won his only start of the week by throwing nine strong innings in a 6-0 win over UW-Parkside on Saturday The Newburgh, Ind., native faced just two batters over the minimum in throwing his first career shutout. He allowed two hits, one of which was eliminated in a double play, and did not walk a batter, while striking out a career-high six batters. For the season, Wright is 5-3 this year with a team-best 1.74 ERA.
