INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University senior infielder/pitcher Michael Schroeder and University of Southern Indiana sophomore pitcher Ben Wright have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

In the Flyers’ weekend series sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan, Schroeder was 10-for-14 (.714) at the plate, including a 4-for-4 effort in the final game of the series where he hit a double and home run.  In Saturday’s opener, the Crown Point, Ind., native was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, only to back that up with a 3-for-5 effort in the nightcap with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.  On the mound for the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader, Schroeder threw six innings, gave up four runs, one earned, on five hits and struck out four for his fifth win of the season.  On the week, Schroeder posted two doubles and a home run, while driving in five runners, scoring eight times, and slugging at a 1.071 clip.

This is the second weekly award in Schroeder’s career as he was also honored on March 11, 2013.  He is the first Flyer to be recognized by the league since Mike Barajas two weeks ago on April 1.
