Bellarmine University sophomore runner Emily Frith and University of Indianapolis senior high jumper Sydney Weinart were selected Wednesday as Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Frith recorded an NCAA provisional-qualifying effort of 17:08.74 as the top collegiate finisher in the 5,000 meters at the University of Kentucky's Heart of the Bluegrass competition. The performance earned the Crab Orchard, Ky., native the GLVC’s leading mark this season and also set a new outdoor school record. Her time currently ranks her 22nd nationally.
Frith earns the first weekly honor of her career and is the first Knight trackster to be recognized by the conference since Kaysee O’Bannon on April 10, 2013.
Weinart’s nod from the conference coaches makes it three straight Field Athlete of the Week honors for the Greyhounds, and marks her second in three weeks as she was tabbed on April 10.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., native won the high jump at the Dave Rankin Invitational this past weekend on the campus of Purdue University. Her season-best effort of 1.72 meters is currently ranked first among GLVC competitors and tied for ninth overall among NCAA qualifiers.
