University of Southern Indiana senior distance specialist Lauren Minor and University of Indianapolis senior high jumper Sydney Weinart have been named the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week of the 2013 season, it was announced by the league on Wednesday.

Competing in her first 3.000-meter steeplechase of the season, Minor crushed her personal best by 25 seconds to win the event at the Bellarmine Classic in 10:53.49.   Her mark put her atop the GLVC standings, some 38 seconds ahead of second place, and has her ranked 12th nationally among Division II competitors.

Minor earns the first weekly honor of her career and is the first Screaming Eagle to be recognized by the conference since teammate Erika Wilson on April 3, 2013.

Weinart’s nod from the conference coaches makes it four-straight Field Athlete of the Week honors for the Greyhounds, and marks her second consecutive win and third in four weeks, as she was tabbed on April 10 and April 24.

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native continued her winning streak at the Bellarmine Track and Field Classic this past weekend.  Weinert cleared a height of 1.72 meters, which is currently ranked first among GLVC competitors.  The mark is also an NCAA provisional qualifying standard and is currently ranked among the top 10 on the NCAA performance list.
