Drury University freshman outfielder Payton Reed and Maryville University sophomore slinger Eric Keling have been named the final Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the 2013 season, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Making his first two appearances on the mound this season, Keling pitched the Saints to two crucial victories as Maryville earned its first GLVC Championship Tournament bid. He threw 5-1/3 innings against Quincy, gave up just three hits and combined with two other pitchers in a 1-0 shutout, Maryville’s first victory by that score since the 1999 season. In the penultimate game of the season, Keling surrendered only one run in a seven-inning complete-game win at Illinois Springfield to keep the Saints season alive. For the week, he posted a 0.73 ERA in 12-1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and held opponents to a .178 batting average.

This is the first time Keling has been honored by the conference during the regular season, and a first for the Saints since Tyler Omlid was tabbed on April 8, 2013.
