University of Missouri-St. Louis sophomore midfielder Sidney Allen and University of Wisconsin-Parkside freshman goalkeeper Mallory Geurts have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday. The 2013 season marks the first year GLVC men's and women's soccer has honored an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
Allen helped UMSL to a 2-0 record on the weekend by assisting on three of the four team goals scored. The Tritons defeated Emporia State 2-0 on Friday and notched a 2-1 victory over Lindenwood on Sunday in the Embassy Suites Invitational, hosted by Lindenwood. The Eureka, Mo., native assisted on the second UMSL goal of the season-opening 2-0 victory over Emporia State and followed by assisting on both the game-tying and game-winning goals against Lindenwood. Allen, who helped the Tritons to their first 2-0 start since 2001, is the first UMSL player to be recognized by the league since Liz Drennan was named Oct. 29 as the final GLVC Player of the Week of the 2012 season.
