University of Missouri-St. Louis sophomore midfielder Sidney Allen and University of Wisconsin-Parkside freshman goalkeeper Mallory Geurts have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday. The 2013 season marks the first year GLVC men's and women's soccer has honored an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
Geurts made her collegiate debut against Ferris State, tallying three saves between the posts for her first career shutout in the Rangers' 1-0 overtime victory last Thursday. Against the defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Champion Michigan Tech on Saturday, Geurts recorded six saves in UW-Parkside's 5-1 win. In two games the freshman from Green Bay, Wis., has yielded just one goal for an average of 0.49 goals allowed per game. This is the first time a Ranger has earned a weekly conference honor since Kristen Benson on Oct. 31, 2011.
