Lewis University junior forward George Thomson and University of Wisconsin-Parkside senior goalkeeper Marcos Perez have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.  The 2013 season marks the first year GLVC men’s and women’s soccer has honored an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.

Thomson had a leg in all three goals in the Flyers' 3-2 double-overtime upset win over No. 2-ranked and 2012 NCAA Championship finalist Saginaw Valley State on Thursday. The Kilmarnock, Scotland, native scored both of his goals 90 seconds apart in the first half, and assisted on Isaac Sutton's game-winning tally in the second overtime.  Thomson stayed busy on the offensive attack last week as he fired 13 shots over two contests, including the final five in a double-overtime scoreless draw against Findlay on Saturday.  This is the first time a Flyer has been honored by the conference since Thomson recorded the first weekly honor of his career nearly a year ago on Sept. 10, 2012.
