Lewis University's Sean Smith has been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week for the 2013 men's cross country season, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.  Smith captured the Bradley Open title last Friday with a 4-mile time of 19 minutes, 51 seconds.

A senior from Winnebago, Ill., Smith bested teammate Andrew McLain by three seconds and helped Lewis win the Non-Division I race with 18 points, ahead of runner-up Missouri S&T and eight other schools.  Smith was also credited with the overall win, finishing with the best time of any runner in the field, regardless of division.

Smith earns the second GLVC Runner of the Week award of his career, as he also captured the first weekly accolade of the 2012 season.  He is the first Flyer to garner the weekly accolade since Andrew McLain on Oct. 2, 2012.

Lewis returns to action this Friday when the Flyers head to Bourbonnais, Ill., to participate in the Illinois Intercollegiate, hosted by Olivet Nazarene.
