INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University freshman Amanda Farrough has been selected by the league coaches as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week for women’s cross country, it was announced Tuesday.

Participating in her first-ever race as a Flyer, Farrough finished second overall at the Illinois Intercollegiate with a 5,000-meter time of 18 minutes, 24.8 seconds, just five ticks behind the individual winner Brianna Hickey of the University of Chicago.  The South Bend, Ind., native’s efforts helped Lewis to tie for the team title with 48 points, however the Maroons were declared the champion via tiebreaker, which went to the team with the fastest sixth runner.

Farrough is the first Flyer to win a weekly award from the conference since Kathryn Hague on Oct. 26, 2010.
