McKendree University sophomore linebacker Alec Gerdes, Missouri S&T sophomore running back Zenel Hudson, and Truman State University junior punter Jacob Lamp have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.  Hudson was named Offensive Player of the Week, Gerdes was picked as Defensive Player of the Week, while Lamp was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hudson had a career day on the ground in the Miners’ 27-14 victory over the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday.  The sophomore tailback amassed a total of 222 rushing yards, which is the second-most in both S&T and GLVC history.  His 35 carries also proved the second-best mark in conference history, as was his 84-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that would serve as the game-clinching score.  Prior to the touchdown, the Bayshore, N.Y., native also found the end zone on a two-yard run in the third quarter.  On the day, Hudson totaled 252 all-purpose yards, which ranks seventh all-time in league history for a single-game mark.  This is Hudson’s first career GLVC Offensive Player of the Week award and the first for a Miner since Joseph Hyman was recognized as the conference’s top offensive standout on Sept. 17, 2012.
