Vertin was tabbed as the league's top defender after guiding the Flyers to a 2-0 record this past week.  She led Lewis’ defense against No. 14 Truman State where she collected her second double-double of the season with 17 digs and 16 kills in the Flyers 3-1 victory.  She also added four total blocks versus the Bulldogs (two solo and two block assists).  In only two sets of playing time, Vertin picked up six kills, four digs, and two block assists against Quincy.  The Joilet, Ill., native ended the week averaging 3.50 digs, 3.67 kills and 1.00 blocks per set and was flawless with a 1.000 reception error percentage in 25 chances.  Vertin leads the Flyers with 117 kills this season and is averaging 3.44 kills per set.   The honor is the first for Vertin, and second for Lewis this season as Alexis Davito earned the accolade on Sept. 16.
