University of Indianapolis senior defensive end Vince Maida, Quincy University senior wide receiver Justin Dickens, and Saint Joseph’s College redshirt freshman punter Marcin Gawlak have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. Dickens was named Offensive Player of the Week, Maida was picked as Defensive Player of the Week, while Gawlak was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week.
Gawlak averaged 42 yards per punt on four kicks in Saturday's 24-21 win over Trine on Saturday. He totaled 168 punting yards on the day, including a 58-yarder that marked the third-longest boot in the conference this season. The Caroll Stream, Ill., native also placed two inside the 20-yard line, which pinned Trine deep in its own territory and help give the Pumas their first 3-1 start since 1987. This is the first weekly honor for Gawlak and the first-ever for a Pumas special teams player. Quarterback Billy VandeMerkt was the last Saint Joseph’s player recognized by the league as he was named GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, 2013.
