Quincy University freshman defender Xhovani Dokaj and Rockhurst University senior defender George Skevington have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Dokaj scored the game-tying and game-winning goal in the second half just under 14 minutes apart at Saint Joseph's College on Friday, helping the Hawks to a 2-1 victory. He continued his weekend with what would have been the game-winning goal against Indianapolis in the 34th minute and then assisted on the eventual game-winner in the 48th minute in Quincy’s 3-2 decision at UIndy. On the week, Dokaj scored three goals and registered one assist, accounting for four of the team’s five goals in both wins. The St. Louis, Mo., native is now tied for the team lead with five goals on the season and leads the team with 13 points. This is the first weekly award of Dokaj’s career and he is the first Hawk to be honored by the league since Grant Ellison was named Player of the Week on Sept. 19, 2011.
