INDIANAPOLIS – Rockhurst University senior forward Mark Magee and Bellarmine University junior goalkeeper Blake Hunter have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Hunter was a solid wall for the Knights’ defense this past week, posting two shutouts in a win and a scoreless tie. In a rain-soaked Friday night in Louisville, Ky., Hunter played a crucial role in the Knights' 0-0 draw with eighth-ranked Lewis, in which he recorded four saves on 17 shots. After keeping a shutout against a nationally-ranked squad through 110 minutes of soccer, Hunter followed up his performance with a second consecutive blanking in a 2-0 victory over UW-Parkside, a team that tallied 2.12 goals per game entering last weekend’s action. This is Hunter’s second career weekly award, as he was also the last Bellarmine standout to be recognized by the league on Oct. 31, 2011.
