Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana’s Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Slade, a senior outfielder for the Eagles, hit .409 last week in six contests and delivered 10 RBIs. His efforts enabled his team to move 11-games over .500 for the first time since 1999 and into the top half of the GLVC standings.
He started the week with a 1-for-5 performance in USI’s 9-8 win over Missouri-Rolla. He led the Eagles comeback from a 7-0 deficit with a two-run double in the first inning.
Slade was 2-for-2 in his team’s 11-6 loss at the hands of Division I Evansville before turning it on in the Eagles weekend series with SIU Edwardsville.
Against the Cougars, Slade was 6-for-15 overall and delivered several big hits. He started the series with a game-winning single in USI’s 4-1 victory and capped the weekend with a game-winning hit in their 6-0 shutout win. For the weekend, Slade corralled seven RBIs and two doubles.
On the year, Slade is hitting .417 with 37 RBIs, nine doubles and 24 RBIs. USI is 22-11 overall and currently sits in third place in the GLVC at 12-7.
