University of Indianapolis senior running back Klay Fiechter, Saint Joseph's College junior linebacker Gary Yeoman, and Truman State University sophomore running back Aaron Hartfield have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. Fiechter was named Offensive Player of the Week, Yeoman was picked as Defensive Player of the Week, while Hartfield was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week.
Fiechter racked up 217 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the Greyhounds' 45-7 win at McKendree this past Saturday. The veteran running back notched his 12th career 100-yard rushing game after compiling 124 yards on just 14 carries (8.9 ypg). He also tacked on 71 receiving yards and 22 punt returns yards to lead the Hounds to their 10th straight GLVC win. His first touchdown came on the second play from scrimmage when sophomore quarterback Connor Barthel found the Bluffton, Ind., native for a 71-yard bomb -- his fourth career score of 70 or more yards. Fiechter's second TD also came in the first quarter, as he broke through the line on a fourth-and-one call to score on the ground from 30 yards out. Also in the game, the Bluffton, Ind., native moved passed former Greyhound-standout Craig Jenkins (2004-08) for second place on the school's all-time rushing list. He ranks second in the league in rushing yards per game (98.2 ypg) and his 3,238 career rushing yards are just 321 yards shy of the program record. This is Fiechter's second Offensive Player of the Week award (Sept. 16, 2013) and his fourth weekly honor overall as he was the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 17 and Oct. 1 last year.
