INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana sophomore Johnnie Guy has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. 

Guy was the top non-Division I finisher in the premier Gold Race at the Greater Louisville Classic last Saturday, and crossed the line third overall.  In hot, humid conditions, the Palmyra, Ind., native recorded an 8,000-meter time of 24 minutes, 23.77 seconds – the second-best 8K time in the conference this season.  Guy, who also owns the top time in the league at 24:09, was actually in position to take the overall title in Louisville before dropping to third in the final 200 meters.

This is the second weekly honor for Guy and as he was also honored on Sept. 17, 2013, a day after being selected the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's Division II Men's National Runner of the Week. 

USI returns to action Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. when it sends a small squad to compete at the University of Evansville Invitational at the UE Cross Country Course.
