Quincy University junior midfielder Ethan Venvertloh and University of Indianapolis redshirt-junior goalkeeper Andrew Verhonik have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Venvertloh scored three of Quincy's six goals this past weekend in a 3-2 double-overtime win against McKendree on Friday and a 3-1 victory over Bellarmine on Sunday. In the thriller against the Bearcats, he netted the team's first goal in the 22nd minute before notching the game-winner in the 107th minute of double overtime. The golden goal was passed across the box by Xhovani Dokaj to the foot of Venvertloh, who then blasted it in the back of the net for the win. He then scored the equalizer on Sunday against Bellarmine on a header into the upper-right corner off an assist by Eddie Ragsdale. The Quincy, Ill., native is now tied with Dokaj with a team-high eight goals on the season. This is the first weekly honor for Venvertloh and the first for a Hawk since Dokaj was honored a few weeks back on Sept. 30.
