Rockhurst University junior forward Taylor Skala and Drury University sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Vaught have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Skala scored seven points on three goals and one assist in Rockhurst's wins over Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's last week. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the Hawk's 2-1 victory over Indianapolis last Friday and added two goals and an assist in RU's 6-0 win over Saint Joseph's on Sunday. She combined for five shots and three shots on goal last week. Skala is the co-leader in the GLVC in game-winning goals (4), and is tied for 10th in goals (6) and points (15) in the GLVC. This is the first weekly honor for Skala this season and the third of her career. The Long Grove, Ill., native was also recognized as GLVC Player of the Week on Oct. 1, 2012 and Oct. 24, 2011. She is the first weekly honoree for Rockhurst since Kristin Wolff was named Offensive Player of the Week two weeks back on Oct. 14.
