INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana women's track and field senior Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) was named the GLVC Women's Track and Field Athlete of he Week for her performance at the Gatorade Classic this past weekend.

Burgin finished second in the 1,500 meters and third in the mile, posting times of four minutes, 45.64 seconds in the 1,500 and two minutes, 19.61 seconds in the 800.

The honor marks the first time a Screaming Eagle has earned GLVC Track and Field Athlete of the Week accolades in the award's inaugural year.

Burgin, who already has an NCAA II provisional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, will attempt to better that mark Friday when she competes at Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California. She will be joined at the event by sophomore Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) and men's junior Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana).

The rest of the Eagles compete at the Indiana Little State Championships in Indianapolis Friday and Saturday.
