Quincy University junior forward Jordan Roberts and University of Indianapolis sophomore defender Daniel Wellmann have been named the season's final Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Roberts' hat trick lifted Quincy to a 4-2 victory over travel partner Truman State on Thursday after the match was postponed on Wednesday at Truman due to weather. He netted his first goal of the match in the third minute when Ethan Venvertloh sent a long, low cross to Roberts who beat the keeper. He scored again in the 14th minute on the right side from a tight angle from 23 yards out to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. His third goal came in the 49th minute when Venvertloh headed the ball to Robert's feet on the left side of the box, which he then converted from 16 yards away. With the hat trick, the Durham, England, native moved to first in the GLVC with 13 goals this season. The win gave Quincy the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Championship Tournament and a share of the regular-season conference title. This is Roberts' first career weekly award and the third straight for Quincy to close out the year. Venvertloh earned back-to-back honors on Oct. 21 and 28.
