Quincy University junior forward Jordan Roberts and University of Indianapolis sophomore defender Daniel Wellmann have been named the season's final Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Wellmann not only helped the Greyhound defense to its seventh shutout of the year, but he also tallied two of UIndy's five goals in the Hounds' 5-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. The Leutkirch, Germany, native scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute, taking a ball in the box from Roger Lee and putting UIndy up 1-0 early. He then converted a penalty kick just after the 34-minute mark to push the score to 2-0. Wellmann has four total goals on the year for UIndy, which closed out the regular season as co-GLVC champions with Quincy. This is Wellmann's first weekly honor of his career and the first for a Greyhound defender since Andrew Verhonik was recognized by the league office on Oct. 21, 2013.
