McKendree University sophomore wide receiver Cameron James, Missouri S&T senior linebacker Chris Emesih, and Truman State University junior running back Garrett White have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday. White was named Offensive Player of the Week, Emesih was picked as Defensive Player of the Week, while James was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week.
Emesih, a native of Houston, Texas, had 10 tackles, including five solo stops, to lead the Miners' best defensive performance of the season in a 24-6 win at William Jewell. S&T held the Cardinals to 202 yards -- the fewest allowed by the Miners this year -- and 12 first downs in the win. Jewell had only three of its 15 possessions in the game in which they ran a play in S&T territory and two of those three possessions started there, including one by a turnover and the other after a personal foul penalty at the end of a punt. The Miners held Thomas Cook, who entered the week ranked among the top rushers in the GLVC, to minus one yard on eight carries. This is Emesih's first career weekly honor and the second for an S&T defender in three weeks as Chris Horn earned the nod on Oct. 21.
