Lewis University freshmen Victor Tarin and Shannon Sullivan have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Tuesday following a vote from the conference's head coaches.
This past Friday in a 106-95 dual win over Missouri S&T, Tarin broke the Lewis program and pool record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.87), which he set last month at the Lewis Alumni Meet. A native of Godelleta, Valencia, Spain, Tarin also won the 100-yard butterfly (50.97). He closed out the meet with a time of 1:40.70 as the anchor leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that posted a pool record 6:53.04, besting the previous mark of 6:54.11. In the second-straight dual meet against Missouri S&T on Saturday, which the Flyers also claimed by a score of 112-89, Tarin again lowered his time in the 200-yard freestyle to 1:40.14. He won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.85, and was the lead leg (46:08) in the pool-record 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 3:09.11 to break the previous mark of 3:11.05, set by Wayne State on Jan. 15, 2011.
