INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana’s Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Slade, a senior rightfielder, helped the Screaming Eagles to six wins last week and was a force at the plate.
He finished the week 8-for-21 (.381) with 12 RBIs, four runs and two doubles.
He began the week in USI’s doubleheader sweep of Missouri-St. Louis on Apr. 12 by going 2-for-6 on the day with two RBIs and a double.
The Eagles won four games at Lewis University over the weekend behind Slade’s six hits and 10 RBIs. Including in his efforts was a 6-for-9 outing in the Eagles sweep on Apr. 14. He collected seven RBIs and a double in USI’s 4-1 and 21-4 wins.
On the year, Slade is hitting .411 with 49 RBIs and 11 doubles. He has helped lead the Eagles to the top of the GLVC standings at 17-6. They are 28-11 overall and will next face Missouri-St. Louis on Apr. 17.
Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Jason Hall, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Timmy Wimsatt, Northern Kentucky’s Josh Bruns, Rockhurst’s Ryan Morgan, UIndy’s Daren Johnson and SIU Edwardsville’s Cory Bunner.
