Drury University junior Kacper Pelczynski and sophomore Gretchen Stein have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office Tuesday following a vote from the conference's head coaches.
Pelczynski won the 200 Breast in 2:04.61 and finished third in the 200 Individual Medley while helping the Panthers to a victory in the 400 Medley Relay in their 147-96 loss to crosstown rival and NCAA Division I member Missouri State last Friday at the Bears' Hammons Student Center Pool.
In the same dual meet setting, Stein - overcoming a day of sickness - captured the 200 IM in 2:07.30, the second-fastest swim in the nation this season, to highlight the effort by the DU women in a 146-91 loss to the Bears.
Pelczynski, Stein and the Drury squads will return to action on Nov. 9 when the Panthers entertain Delta State in their home opener at the Breech Pool at 1 p.m. CT.
Drury is the nine-time defending men's NCAA Division II National Champion and has captured four of the last five women's national titles.
