University of Wisconsin-Parkside junior guard Jordan Mach has been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for the 2013-14 men's basketball season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
The 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year returned to the court for the first time since suffering an injury in January 2012, and led the Rangers in scoring in both games at Cedarville University's Don Callan Classic, helping UW-Parkside to a 2-0 start.
Mach tallied 24 points in the season-opening 95-83 victory against Central State on Friday. He was 7-of-13 (.538) from the floor, including 4-of-8 (.500) from the perimeter, and notched five rebounds and four assists as well.
In the Rangers' 85-73 win at Cedarville Saturday, Mach registered a career-high 26 points, finishing 9-of-17 (.529) from the floor and 3-of-9 (.333) from the arc, while also tallying another five rebounds.
The Antigo, Wis., native finished the week averaging 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Mach shot 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the floor, including 41.2 percent (11-for-14) from distance while committing just three turnovers during the tournament.
This is Mach's first weekly honor of his career and the first for a Ranger since Jeremy Saffold was recognized by the league on Jan. 28.
