INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Meagan Shimkus (Frankfort, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

  

Shimkus, a junior pitcher for the Rangers, picked up two wins in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Saint Joseph’s over the weekend.

 

She pitched a complete-game in the opener going seven innings and striking out ten in the Rangers’ 4-3 win. She surrendered just three hits and walked two in the victory.

 

Shimkus returned in the nightcap to pitch an inning and two-thirds of relief. She earned the decision in the 5-4 victory and struck out one, while allowing no hits.

 

For the year, Shimkus is now 12-6 with a 1.62 earned run average. She has made 20 appearances and struck out 129 in 116.1 innings pitched.

 

UW-Parkside (17-14) improved to 7-7 in the GLVC this season with the wins. The Rangers will next face UIndy at home on Apr. 16.

 

Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Kentucky Wesleyan’s Haleigh Ashworth.
